Glulam Beam Processing Line in Quebec

Year: 2011
Application: Engineered Wood Products

TECOLAM is a manufacturer of wooden beams called "glulam" located in Val d'Or, Quebec. The beams made in this facility must meet standards CSA0122-06 and CSA0177-06.

For their project, TECOLAM has selected Doucet to build their equipment for the fingerjointing and the laminating process of the beams. The plant is in operation since January 2011 and has an annual production capacity of 2500 M3 / year per shift.

TECOLAM were having specific needs in regard to their glulam beam dimensions and specifications in order to meet all requests from their clients.

First, the beams were to be glued straight or camber and up to a maximum length of 60'. To meet all customer needs, the design of the vertical press was adapted to allow the laminating of curved beams as per CSA standard with a camber of 1" over 30' of beam length.

Second, TECOLAM had the needs to make glulams with architectural curves beyond the capacity of the vertical press. Parallel to the main production line, a second press, manually loaded allows the laminating of extreme camber for architectural beams in a safe working environment for employees.

Equipments provided by Doucet in this project consist of:

  • MANYX Vacuum Destacker
  • Fingerjointer Loading device with sorting bins for wet or defective boards
  • Fingerjointer system DJ-250 for long stock structural applications
  • Double deck curing chain
  • Singulator and feeder to planer
  • Glue applicator loading conveyor
  • Automatic Beam forming and vertical press loading system
  • Vertical Cold Press - Two Bays capacity - straight or curved beams
  • Beam Automatic discharge system
  • Architectural beams manual cold press
