Eggers Industries adopts
a clever Material Handling Solution

Mark Schweke and Bob Swoboda
Eggers Industries • Two Rivers, WI
Wisconsin based Eggers Industries is one of the nation’s leading supplier of Architectural Woodworking Products. Custom designed interior and exterior doors account for the bulk of the production at their recently inaugurated plant and head office in Two Rivers Wisconsin. In addition to doors Eggers makes a complete range of laminated veneer products such as door jams, ceiling tiles, conference room paneling and office furniture.
Because some of the style and rail doors produced by Eggers weigh up to 400 lbs, the company was facing unique challenges in their edgebander department. The company had to maintain a 4 person crew working around its edgebander to handle its heavy weight doors. Even with all that help, the process remained painfully slow with the entire crew loading one door at a time, walking it through the machine, then stacking it at the tail end of the bander. The same process needed to be repeated for the opposite edge of every door. |

To contain cost and reduce exposure to occupational injuries, there was an obvious need to implement material handling solutions around its edgebander. Yet, because of the diversity of products, some of the components processed on the edgebander are at the other end of the size and weight spectrum. Egger’s goal was to implement a solution that allowed the entire workload to be processed safely and effectively by one single operator. For those reasons, the solution had to remain as flexible as possible. |

Eggers challenged Doucet to come up with a Return Conveyor capable of handling flawlessly the long and short sides of parts 4” by 12” all the way up to 4’ X 10' weighing from 10 oz. to 400 lbs. Doucet offered Eggers a BT-2060-HD, an automatic Return Conveyor similar to regular BT-Return Conveyors, but equipped with a “Heavy Weight Package”. |
The weight handling package includes upgraded motors and drives, wide drive belts on selected rollers, larger pneumatic valves, cylinders and compressed air distribution conduits, and is available on BT-2036, 2048 and 2060 Models. In addition to the Doucet Return, the operator has access to a vacuum lifter to load, rotate and off load the doors on the edgebander’s feed chain and off of the return rollers. |
